The Pima County Department of Environmental Quality (PDEQ) is extending its public comment period and holding another public hearing for the proposed modification of Air Quality Permit No. 1052 to Tucson Electric Power (TEP) Irvington/H.Wilson Sundt Generating Station.

TEP wants to replace “two 1950's era steam units" (i.e., Units 1 and 2) with 10 natural gas fired combustion engines. The permit application, created with help from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Park Service, is chronologically documented on the PDEQ webpage.

This second public hearing will take place on March 28 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Pima County Public Works Building, 201 N. Stone Ave., in Basement Conference Room C.

One can appeal the permit decision by submitting a written comment by March 29. It must be signed by an individual, his/her agent, or his/her attorney and include a name and mailing address. Reasoning for opposition must be based on Arizona Revised Statutes Section §49-481 and Title 17 of the Pima County Code.

Comments and requests can be sent to PDEQ, Air Program Manager, Rupesh Patel, 33 N. Stone Ave., Suite 700, Tucson, 85701 or emailed to air.permits@pima.gov.
