Conversant Group issued the following announcement on Oct. 26.
What is “Critical Infrastructure”? This term encapsulates a set list of services that have been deemed “essential”, because they serve as the backbone of our nation’s economy, security, and health. But how did this list come about?
In a presidential directive and ensuing Congressional act following 9/11, the US defined 16 “systems and assets, whether physical or virtual, are considered so vital to the United States that their incapacitation or destruction would have a debilitating impact on security, national economic security, national public health or safety, or any combination thereof.” The public plays a direct role in these industries whether you work in the government, for one of those sectors, or are just a user of their services. Understanding what those 16 critical sectors are, how they impact our nation, and what you can do (“see something, say something”) is a strategic pillar in our country’s security.
